The headline news for June was the horrible heatwave towards the end of the month. I’m fortunate enough to have a house that remains relatively cool downstairs, but the lack of proper sleep led to a frazzled brain and some weekend working to catch up once the temperatures dropped. Prior to that, however, I spent a few days with my sister and my new nephew. It was a household adventure as I took Oscar (cat) and Tilda (tortoise) with me – the baby was of no interest to either of them, though.

What I’ve been working on

I finished the proofread of the short story collection I started in May. That was followed by the copy-edit of a cosy sci-fi murder mystery, which is the first novel in a new series by one of my long-time clients. I also worked on a critique of the next installment in a fantasy series that is about to make its transition from YA to adult fiction. The month was wrapped up by the copy-edit of a mind-bending tale of a pioneering doctor navigating the Victorian underworld.

Looking ahead

I should be having some minor home improvements completed, but otherwise July will be a work-focused month.
