Black Cat Editorial Services offers sensitive, thoughtful and thorough line-editing, copy-editing, proofreading and development editing, specialising in fiction. Clients benefiting from these services include publishers and independent authors.
I’m Hannah McCall and I have worked on more than 300 projects since 2015, including murder mysteries, fantasy fiction and short-story collections. All of these have been completed to the highest editorial standards, while respecting and strengthening the author’s voice.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach at Black Cat. You’ll receive a service tailored to and appropriate for your needs and the project, and I’ll work with you directly.
I have ten years’ experience working with publishers and independent authors. You will benefit from the knowledge and expertise I have accumulated through thousands of hours of editorial work.

I’m highly trained, and I am an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) (formerly the Society for Editors and Proofreaders).
Services
Line- and copy-editing
This is editing at the sentence level. As well as correcting errors and ensuring consistency, I’ll provide suggested edits to improve readability, characterisation and style.
Proofreading
The last check and tidy-up before publication.
Manuscript critique and developmental editing
These services look at the novel as a whole and focus on the big-picture elements such as plot development and characterisation.
Coaching
Sometimes you just need someone in your corner. I’m available for mini-critiques, to provide advice and encouragement, and to help develop ideas.
